Steven Adams was born in Rotorua on July 20, 1993, to a Tongan mother and an English Dad. Adams has 17 siblings most of which have had successful sporting careers in their own right.

After his fathers’ death in 2006, Adams took a downward spiral, his brother, Warren noticed this and took him to Wellington to be trained under Kenny McFadden for basketball. Kenny’s only rule was that Adams had to attend all his classes at Scots College. Adams did well at Scots College and caught the attention of scouts at Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania . In 2012 Adams went to Pittsburg and earned himself Big-East all-rookie team, after one year at Pittsburg Adams decided to forego his next 3 years to enter the NBA draft. On June 27, 2013, Steven Adams was the first Kiwi to be picked in the first round by the Oklahoma City Thunder at Number 12th overall. During his first year, Adams recorded 3.3 points 4.1 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game and earned all-rookie second team honors. His next three years went by with nothing too evenfull, with adams averageing career high in all of his statistics. However in 2017 Steven Adams became a top 10 center and was finally classified as a elite NBA center.

Every year in August Adams host three basketball camps in, Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. The camps are for children from age 8-17. These are a good gateway for kids who love basketball to go out and train with one of the best. All of the funds raised by the three camps are given to charity and back to the community. Adams also runs a celebrity gold tournament with alot of rugby players and local celebrities
