Ancestors

The story is set in an urbanizing rural area. It is told from a first Person point-of-view of a Male Maori. It uses formal language in the story. ‘Tamati’ is the only use of a Maori word and name. It talks about how the Maori once lived on this land and now the European men have taken over and built large modern buildings. Also, the writer talks about distant memories of a time long before the Pakeha built the houses costing more than the one before. There are no uses of figures of speech apart from the one use of alliteration. It uses contrasting text to detail how the pakeha took over and changed the surroundings
